  • There are no personal prerequisites for accessing this training course. The course is open to anyone wishing to learn the basics of gemmology.

WHO IS IT FOR?


  • These courses are open to anyone with an interest for precious and semi-precious stones, with no prerequisites necessary. Whether you are a knowledgeable enthusiast, a collector or simply curious, this introductory course will provide you with a solid foundation in gemmology in a professional and accessible setting.

  • The courses are also aimed at artisans, jewellers, gemmologists, watchmakers and independent designers who wish to enhance their skills by gaining a better understanding of the gems they work with and become more confident in their professional practice and interactions with customers.

  • Our courses can be tailored to the specific needs of luxury brands wishing to train or upskill their teams in the fundamentals of gemmology. These training courses help to strengthen product expertise, technical credibility and the quality of communication with end customers.

  • We also collaborate with schools, training centres and institutions wishing to supplement their curriculum with a structured and recognised introduction to gemmology. Programmes can be tailored to the level of the learners and the educational objectives of each institution.

TRAINING


Over 2 half-days, i.e. 8 hours of lessons

Price: CHF 420.- per person

    • What is a gemstone?

    • Gemstone geology

    • Crystal structure

    • Gemstone durability

    • Colour and optical phenomena

    • How to examine a gemstone

    • Gemmological instruments

    • Criteria for selecting a gemstone for a project (jewellery and watchmaking)

    Programme :

    4 hours of lessons from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

    • The journey of gems from mine to sale

    • Gem cutting

    • Diamonds and the 4Cs

    • The main coloured stones: Beryls, Corundums, Garnets, Tourmalines, Topazes, Spinels, Tanzanites

    • Geographical origins, treatments and synthesis of diamonds and coloured stones

  • During the training course, ESDS provides you with:

    • Printed course materials

    • Gemmology instruments

    • Gemmology samples: rough crystals and cut stones

  • A certificate of attendance will be issued to participants who have completed the entire training course.
